Oil Leaks
#1
My local Citroën dealer has just informed me the cost of repairing two oil leaks on my 2010 B9 diesel will be £1,347.54!!!

They say there is a leak from the N/S diff - requires new seal and oil leak from oil pump seal, replace seal, fit new cambelt (I had this changed about 4000 miles ago) plus a new Franck shaft oil seal (whatever that is)

Are these costs justified? £1350 is a lot of oil before the repair breaks even!!

Can anybody recommend somebody in the Kent area who could do this work at a more economical rate please?

Sounds expensive to me:

Frankshaft is probably Crankshaft, if so the cambelt will need to come off & if it has oil on it, the cambelt will need to be replaced.

Diff seal is probably the driveshaft seal, easy enough job but time consuming.

Not sure about the oil pump seal though... Maybe someone else has an idea about that.

I recently had a full service with water pump and cambelt replaced by a local (Essex) mobile mechanic who has 5star Google reviews. Cost well under £400 all in, which I thought was amazing! I will PM the details - he might be willing to venture over the bridge.

I,d get more details of what is being replaced why new cambelt etc give you a bit more idea of if it’s worth it or taking the mickey.

They probably didn't realise the belt was recently replaced. I've looked in a Haynes manual and I don't think its a difficult job. It will be fiddly if trying to do it on axle stands, sump cover off, remove pickup, unbolt oil pump, fit new pump, refit pickup, new gaskets everywhere, refit sump. The oil pumps I've seen include the crank seal (I think). There is other stuff to take off and refit but not £1100 worth,

The seal on the diff output looks more fiddly and they wanted £300 for that.

Its likely that a new oil pump from Citroen is £££'s which is why they are suggesting taking it apart and rebuilding it,

I read what is being replaced from their breakdown sheet and I have given you all of the details they gave me.

They also said the number plate lights were not working. I turned the lights on and guess what ..... they are both working !!!

They don't seem very good, and they seem to know that they aren't. Might be trying to frighten you away with that price. One trick ponies and all that.

Could be right, AFAIK the oil pump is inside the engine so don't know how they can diagnose a leak? The cam belt should be changed again if it has oil on it.
You should get a second opinion somewhere else, maybe search for a local independent citroen / peugeot garage?

I have spoken to the guy Rasputin suggested. He is going to cost it all up and get back to me. I just hope he doesn't find more!!
