I have looked and followed advice but cannot find a solution to a question that I thought would be very standard. My key fob stopped working, so I bought some new batteries and replaced them. I cannot get the damn thing to work now. I have put it in the ignition, turned the ignition on and held the lock button for ten seconds, no joy. Is there anything else to try before I ay a fortune to the dealer to sort?

It may actually be faulty, do you have a second key to try? I ask because if the second key works, its likely a faulty key (the buttons can come adrift on the circuit board) and if none of the keys work, then you may have a faulty COM2000 module under the steering wheel which receives the signal to unlock the doors and passes the request to the BSI to be carried out.
Ignition (start) is passive (PATS - no batteries needed) and is separate from the lock/unlock function, which uses the battery in the key.

As above, do you have a spare that works, either to start or unlock remotely or both? If you decide to replace the remote, don't forget that the key fob also has a small immobiliser chip in it.
