Tow bar wiring
#1
Hi all..
Just to be sure, can anyone confirm that tow bar electrics DOES NOT require a relay?
Berlingo is a 2005 2.0HDI.
I’ve never seen a light bulb warning light, but I’ve never had a blown bulb in the short time I owned this car. One doesn’t light up on initial turning on the ignition either.
Unless warned otherwise, I intend to tap straight into the existing wiring loom. Any tips or cheats will also be appreciated from anyone that’s installed their own tow bar and wiring. It looks straight forward enough after doing the usual researches.

Ive finished installing, so for any future reference, I’ve scotch-locked direct into the relevant wires. Didn’t run a live from the battery nor used a relay. Kit I bought had split wires- one to the left side and the other to the right, so didn’t need to route any wires from one side to the other.
I had no issues and the trailer board works as it should. Indicators blink at the right speed, but forgot to add a buzzer. I’ll do that another day.

First sign of any electrical problems check the scitchlocks.

I wouldnt have used them I would have made a more permanent connection.

Agreed. I wasn’t going to use them but spur of the moment found scotchlocks an easy option. Hopefully they hold up!

These are what you want, way better than scotchloks if you can't solder them. And pack in Silicon grease after assembly for extra protections. Rated for professional electrical mains connections.
