Seems a shame to sell it after doing the cambelt etc. If it's no longer a daily driver, couldn't you have a go at the head gasket yourself (with a bit of help from, say, a mobile mechanic)? I know it's a daunting job but you don't have much to lose (except time) - if it all went wrong, you'd still have the scrap value, and it might even still be of interest to whoever could fix it up.

There's nothing (Berlingo related) that I'd love more! But I have problems with my feet which make such a prospect simply impossible. Ten years ago - maybe even five - I would have had a go without a thought.
Plus at the moment I simply don't have the spare time. I work full time and must keep my job down for two more years (not helped by my feet), and most of my days off are spent visiting needy family in the midlands.
But you have given me an idea, which I shall look into.

If only. No, much worse and long-term. As you say, croaked is about right!
I should have put the car back on the road. A big mistake not to.
The idea you gave me was to sell it spares or repair on eBay. One chap won it for over £400 then refused to do the deal because it wasn't ULEZ friendly. But my ad made no such claim. eBay refused to help too. Bidder walked away without a blemish.
