Rear Axle Fluid Leak?
#1
Hello All,

Hope everyone can enjoy the good weather!

Noticed a puddle of dark fluid under my 1.6 Diesel automatic 65 reg Berlingo yesterday. Might be a pint of fluid in total. Unable to get under there myself but seems to correspond with the center of the rear axle. Being a front-wheel drive, I imagine there's no rear differential to leak. Presently in with the mechanic; any one have any ideas? No symptoms at all, no big pot holes recently...added AdBlue a few weeks ago, that's it.
Thanks!

Only thing to leak fluid at the back end is the brakes, you'd soon notice that one.
So where does this bit go then ?

Silly me - turns out it was likely just fuel. I had just filled up then parked on a steep street. I didn't drive for 2 days so it didn't smell like fuel by then, and maybe sitting on the road thickened it up or something. Also strange that it came out from the center of the axle. Mechanic thinks it got absorbed by padding around the fuel tank so continued to drip and the axle is just where it finally came off. And picked up a lot of sludge on the way down. Just strange there was so much of it, and I didn't even overfill at the station.
