Oil spec

I'm looking for the oil spec for my 57 plate (old shape) 1.6 Hdi van.

I'm pretty sure it's 5w30 but not so sure what other letters and numbers it has to comply with (e.g. C3, C4)

My handbook states synthetic-based meeting at least ACEA A3/B3 and API SL/SEE or mineral-based at least ACEA A2/B2 and API SL. I have always used fully synthetic 5W30 Total Quartz Ineo ECS, which meets those. If yours has a DPF, low SAPS oil is recommended. The Ineo ECS is low SAPS. The SAPS stands for sulphated ash, phosphorous and sulphur.
5W40 is also alright in the 1.6HDi.
