It seems that I last visited Berlingo Forum back in 2013 . . . However - I'm back, and on my 3rd Berlingo, a 2004 2.0 HDi model, which I purchased last year.
When I got it, it had about 83,000 miles on the clock, and has run fine since then, with one or two minor oddities.
However, it now has a problem. To cut a long story short, the engine warning light went on, it went "Beep", and the car went into limp mode. I had just set out on holiday - heading for Keswick from the north of Scotland, and was between Perth & Inverness on the A9. So we pulled over into a layby, turned off the engine, and restarted it. The car ran normally for 25 miles or so, then went into limp mode again. So we went a few miles further, and called out the RAC. They came, plugged in their gadget to find the fault, and told me it was a fuel system fault - but they didn't know what. After chatting to them, we agreed that I would continue, and see what happened. 25 miles later, the car went into limp mode again, and after turning off engine and re-starting, I headed for my mother's house since she happened to live nearby.
That all happened on a Saturday afternoon - 9 days ago. Monday morning I tried local garages, and found one that agreed to have a look at the car if and when they had time. We borrowed my mother's car and continued on our holiday in the Lake District, then came back this afternoon. I went around to the garage to see what they had found and they basically told me 2 things:
1) It needed a main dealer to diagnose the problem. Main dealers have technology that enables them to get a the fault code - technology that is not available to independent garages. (I suspect that a Peugeot dealer would be as good as a Citroen dealer since Berlingos and Partners are basically identical.)
2) The garage boss was confident that running the car in limp mode was not going to cause any harm to the car - even if I ran it for a few hundred miles.
Any thoughts? Finding nearby main dealer who would be able to look at the problem any time soon could be challenging.
