Cambelt slipped? 2.0Hdi Or ECU?
#1
Has the cambelt slipped? How do I check it easily?
2.0hdi 2004
The car just stalled, 500mtrs down the road.It wouldnt start. Ignition lights work, engine turns over but wont fire. It sounds a bit odd.
Recovery guy says the cambelt couldve slipped.
If it has will the engine be damaged?
Or do I just replace the cambelt?

Otherwise the OBDI bluetooth scanner wont connect to the ECU.
Can I reset the ECU or something, or check connections etc?

Does "It sounds a bit odd" sound a suit of armour falling down a staircase?
Put a socket on the crank and turn the engine clockwise by hand (ignition off).
If the ratchet bounces back against strong air compressions, four times in two turns, you might be ok.
Anything less than four, you bent a valve or holed a piston.
If it goes "clunk", less good.

Rumour has it that the cam lobes are pressed on the shafts & will slip rather than destroy the engine if the cambelt lost time. Or is that the 1.6HDi ?

Best of luck.

The cambelt I guess is ok , the timing holes on the camshaft and crankshaft line up, does that sound right?
I n which case I have to find an ECU problem

That sounds good, but you now have
a tedious search for a corroded plug pin, or wire fault.
Good Luck.

I think I would be trying to get the car hooked up to some proper diagnostic equipment before you go any further, Bluetooth obd devices can be temperamental.

i just got the Carista OBD2, but it wont connect with the ECU.
Nor will my cheapo obd2. It wasnt a problem before
Will proper diagnostic equipment be any different?

Probably not, if the Carista worked before on the same vehicle. I'd start checking fuses and make sure the BSI isnt full of water. (Unit under the dash.)

Didn't know that your OBD2 equipment used to work ok, there's some reason why it isn't connecting the problem is figuring out what.

It turns out the 20A fuse for the ECU was blown (F8. ECU, Fan Relay)
It started up with a new fuse
Unfortunately, when I went to start it again the fuse had blown. This may be because the fuse I used was taken from F4,20A, display/COM2000 which was replaced with the 15A fuse from F15 (15A VAN network instrument cluster, car radio, display?)

So why would the ECU fuse blow in the first place, as I was driving along?

No idea but could be many things. Did you jet-wash it by any chance before this happened? also possible the fan relay is drawing too much current, look at each device on that fuse that isn't the ECU and hope you find something drawing too much current - if it was a fault in the ECU then it's unlikely it would start again, so disconnect each thing one at a time and try it. If it runs for a longer time with an item disconnected, that is your issue.
