Engine Fault Repair Needed, Emissions Fault Adblue

Picked up a 2018 Berlingo from Cazoo on Saturday.

Within 30 miles of driving i got a shock when an Engine Fault flashes up on the speedometer followed by an Emissions fault.

I've done some research and it appears this is a well documented fault that can end up being £1000s to repair.

I took the car back in on the Sunday and they did a reset (which removed the error) and told me the car needs a software update.

Having done some research I think this was an outright lie.

Does anyone know exactly what is going on here? I see in another post here someone has had similar issues.

What mileage is it on? and yes, that's a lie.

Once 100k miles is reached then the system will assume the DPF is near clogged and will start a countdown to no-start. Also possible to have a low Eolys pouch if it has both that and an Adblue tank, or the Adblue tank pump has failed or tripped. Really needs a diagnostic from someone who has DiaBox software and a Lexia Interface to know for sure, and to resolve.

The ECU can measure the Adblue but not the Eolys pouch if fitted (some later B9s had both) and will assume at near 100k that it will be empty. The 100k is a factory figure but depending on driving conditions (number of fill-ups) it can hit the warning before then. Usually the DPF will actually be near clogged at that point, and would need cleaned out properly, then Diagbox used to tell the ECU a new one has been fitted, before this warning will go away permanently (or at least for another 100k miles)

I'm assuming you have a B9 as it's 2018 and the K9 I think started on 2019, but others will correct me if wrong (I have only had the B9 & M59's) - if you do have a B9, then I'll move the thread to the correct section once confirmed. Not sure if there was any overlap on the B9/K9 in 2018.

Hi, I recently had an issue with my 2018 berlingo too. The adblue and engine fault light came on, mileage about 37000. Filled up with adblue but within a few days the light came on again with engine fault light also coming on.
Took the car to local citroen garage where diagnostics identified adblue tank was leaking, I needed a new tank and pipe. Seems this is a common fault!! Much to my dismay.
The garage got in touch with citroen UK who agreed as a goodwill gesture to replace the parts. This has now been done and all sorted.
Best to get diagnostics done to identify what is wrong.

Thanks for the info. Yes it's definitely a K9. I'm returning the vehicle anyway as after researching online it seems like it'll be a massive hassle. Apparently there's a big lawsuit against Citroen because of it. It's a real shame as it's a lovely vehicle.

The more research I do the more it seems that there is an issue with the adblue set up across a whole range of cars and manufacturers. I'm going to return the car and have a rethink.

Luckily it appeared during Cazoo's 7 day return policy but I honestly believe they know about this issue and were trying to pass on a car with a known fault onto me hoping the sensors wouldn't go off for a few months.

I had the same thing on my 2018 K9 a few months back. EML, Adblue warnings, loud beeps plus the central display efaulted to a local map showing the nearest Citroen dealers.
I topped up adblue ( it only took 7 litres) and cleared the fault codes with an OBD reader.
That was about 1000 miles ago and all appears well now.
Not easy driving with my fingers crossed.

I don't have any of these issues with my 1965 International tractor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The adblue tank on my 2015 Berlingo has failed at 42,000 miles. Citroen have declined to make any contribution to replacing it because the car is older than five years, although I bought it new from main dealer. Moral of the story: drive plenty of miles so your adblue tank fails sooner.

Adblue vehicle here, 2017, 64k miles 1.6 HDi.

No issues so far, other than warning about low Adblue. Topped up with 10L from Aldi, all good.

No reset required, just top up and drive.
