The bonnet on my van is badly rusted on the underside of the front edge. TBH I think it's a replacement as it appears the van has had a poor accident repair in the past. There are plenty of bonnets on ebay ect but I was wondering if this is a common rust spot and a S/H replacement is likely to be just as bad as I am wary of buying unseen.

The B9 has a problem in that area, but both my M59's were ok. If you buy on eBay, send a message first and if they lie, you can ask for your money back.

Thanks, I did message one seller and asked the specific question, but they didn't get back to me which probably tells you something...

My M59 (2007) has a bit of rust at the front inside edge of the bonnet. So, it seems to be relatively common. I treated it with anti-rust thingy, but I can see it coming back as the sealing thing on the edge is there and difficult to remove it.
If you are thinking of purchasing a second-hand one, ask for photos of the inside edge. I doubt they will send you any, but worth a try.

My 2012 B9 had the exact same thing, a strip across the front underside of the bonnet with all the paint chipped off and getting rusty.

Edit Reason: Additional words for clarity
)
Hi everyone,
Just purchased a 2016 Multispace last week from a main dealer. Immaculate, so I thought. Until my mate spotted peeling paint and rust all the way along under the front of the bonnet lid.
Now rubbed down to bare metal and treated with Loctite Rust Remedy. Hoping that is a good product? Primed and topcoated.
Hope this will cure it!
Regards.

It's good, as long as you get paint on it as soon as you can. My last van was the same. Loctite rust cure is pretty good. That looks better already!

I got the top coats on today, and will lacquer tomorrow. I noticed also that the blue paint has rubbed off just small areas from the side edges of the bonnet, but only enough to reveal the white primer. Will use just the touch in brush on those as well.
I wonder, was the bonnet build quality a weak spot generally on the Mk2s?

They suffered a kind of sandblasting effect of gritty air going through the grille. A lot of them have lost the paint on that area.
The paint was not thick, probably a cost saving on Citroen's part. They replaced a nice plastic engine cover with a bit of fuzzy felt in 2012, I guess they would shave money off wherever they could.
