Steering column wiring diagram
#1
Hi

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for a 2014 Berlingo van. The wiring under the steering wheel column. Particularly the ignition live and the side lights/main beam as I am looking for signal wires for relays to power extra lights for those functions.

I could take them from the engine bay fuse box but as I have my switch panel, fuse box and relay's all mounted under the drivers seat I would like to keep wiring to a minimum.

Thanks

Hopefully, the attached has what you need, the last page has a key for the various components. It's probably easier to take the wiring from the BSI.

Thank you for the file! Is it possible to get wire colours? I have had a look underneath the steering wheel for the one that should control the lights - CV00. After unplugging it to see if my lights would work they did except always on dip beam (must be a safety feature) how ever there was also an anti theft fault pop up on the centre screen so something else must run through this.

From what I've read elsewhere, the wire insulation colours can change from time to time, but the numbers on the diagram should be printed on the wires. AFAIK, the power feed to the lights will come from the BSI via relays in the BSI, the relays will be controlled via the electronics in the BSI which will communicate with the steering column via a data bus.

To ensure extra lights work, you would be better to splice into the last wire to each actual light, but remember the BSI checks the lamp impedance for failed bulbs over the canbus , so you may get bulb fail warnings just from adding stuff.

And as Cancunia says, the BSI controls all lights remotely, reading your switch inputs and acting on them, nothing is wired directly from switch to device on these vehicles. Also the ignition is shut down after 20 mins to eco mode and nothing powered up from this circuit will remain on, almost every system shuts down whether the key is on or off, unless the engine is running. Best thing for items you want powered up permanently is direct from the battery via a fused feed. Things you want to be on with ignition while running, are better fed from piggy backs on the main fuse box.

I realise now that the can bus system means I’ll have to take it from the the BSI or fuse box. The van doesn’t have a bulb failure feature on it so that wouldn’t be an issue and the wire is supplying a signal to a relay so the draw is very very little, the actual lights are being fed off a fuse box supplied with a 70A cable straight from the battery with a fuse at the battery terminal. And the switch board is ran through a timer relay so will stay active as long as I set the relay (for work lights and beacons etc)

From what I can work out the BSI sits underneath the fuse box, where the big Maxi fuses are.

Thank you for the advise, I’ll be running wires from the engine bay to the interior now

The BSI is embedded in the back of the hole where the glovebox is mounted, in the B9 van. The metal cased unit stuffed down the front of the engine bay fusebox, is the engine ECU or Injection Calculator as Citroen call it.

When you pull the glovebox out, you'll see a unit with green tabs, and lots of plugs, that can be flipped down (with a bit of effort) and a rats nest of wiring across the front of it, that is the BSI.

And you do have bulb failure built in, to all models. It shows you if any are blown when you flip through the central screen menus for vehicle status in the trip computer.

Okay I’ll have a look for that tonight, and I meant I thought the BSI lived under the fuse box but still part of the plastic casing as I knew the metal unit was the engine ECU.

Okay, I’ve never really looked through the central screen menu’s other than radio and Bluetooth. It doesn’t show up as a warning which is something I’m glad about.

Guys (deejay_xb especially) I have to apologise, I assumed that all models needed canbus compliant LEDS and had bulb failure detection. This function is common for many years now on a lot of vehicles, even my 53 plate vectra work vehicle 10 years ago had it.

But despite hunting the handbook, no mention of this actually exists, so I have to hold my hands up to propagating that particular apparent myth that they ALL have this feature. My van had a bulb warning when I had a tail light out, but only found the message in the MFD after the wife pointed out the dead bulb while driving behind me.

I know you can go into the MFD > settings > Alert Log / Diagnostics / Status of Functions and in the alert log is where it should be shown, but contradictory to my previous insistence the bulb warning is there, the manual makes no mention specifically of bulb fail warning.

See the attached screenshot, this is where my warning appeared:
