Sliding door roller bodge
#1
I was wondering why one of the sliding doors was stiff.
The bogey of the middle track (the one under the window), didn't seem to want to keep up with everything else.
So out it comes. (half open door, prop the end with something to take the weight, undo two 13mm bolts, slide the bogey to the bend in the track by the door jamb and tip it out.

The roller that takes the weight had skidded it's plastic "tyre" totally flat to the metal in one place.
Perfectly smooth bearing, so why it did this I have no idea.
Nothing sensible on Ebay,  the roller might be replaceable, but it is hammered & peened into place, too much hassle even if I could get the right one.

So, looking closer, after prising the remains of the plastic "tyre" off, there are two lovely radiused grooves in the steel of the bearing. Cleaned, sanded, and a bit of 5 minute epoxy, glued two o rings into these grooves.
One hour in the oven at 60C to speed up the glue and it all works lovely.

I will let you know how long it lasts. Dodgy

Part number of bogey 903430
Part number of roller kit 5931996 which will need lots of faff drilling & ball-peen hammering.

Unfortunately, it's now a bit of a problem to import into the UK as we not only have to pay import taxes but also pay the shipping company an admin fee to pay the tax. Sometimes this does not happen, but it is a risk.

I had one " go " on my M59 and I used " Milliput " to build it back up into a circle ..worked well .. can file / mill / turn Milliput after forming and drying so is rather strong stuff - also used it to repair my early land Rover steering wheel with phenomenal effect ( phenolic / bakelite type plastic )

I have to say an O ring bonded on would probably be easier.

Our 1959 Series II Land Rover will thank you for that!
£2 per liter & 18 mpg might mean it's an aesthetic exercise.

"O" rings still hanging on. So I will call this bodge good.
Will repeat for the bottom runner as it's wheel's doing the lumpy bumpy thing.

Lumpy bumpy ... lol ! Great to hear your engineering solution has borne fruit ..........

I get this every so often on my M59 and I hose out the runners, gives the extra benefit of making the doors slide close easier from the fully open latched position.

A squirt of aerosol oil ( non WD40 ) also helps.

My wife is grateful after hosing out the runners as she cannot close the door from the inside otherwise.
