[Transmission] gearbox
#1
Hi all, very new here so this has probably been discussed before but hopefully someone can help.Just purchased a 2012 1.6hdi xtr a few weeks back.On the way back after 3 hour journey with no problems started getting light crunch into 4th gear only which never got any worse or better just stayed the same all the time.In short box was removed and sent to specialist who rebuilt and said 4th synchro was bad.Refitted and when mechanic test drove said there is now light crunch into 3rd and now also seems stiff between 3rd and 4th and from 5th to 4th lever seems to stick and not go into neutral properly until after a wiggle or two it releases itself.Any ideas please?

Sounds as though the 'rebuild' was not done correctly - did you get you own 'box back as you could have been palmed off with just another second-hand gearbox. Tell your mechanic that the work is not satisfactory and that you want the work done properly - the gearbox should not crunch in any gear, nor should there be resistance when changing gear.
The resistance might be linkage related, but if it wasn't there before it shouldn't be there now.
Problems unlikely to get better without further work. Sad

Hi there, thanks for reply.Yes it is a weird one, mechanic i trust 110% as have known him most of my life and he does every bit of work for me.The box is original and he took it to someone again he has used for years so trust them however does not seem to be correct.
Just my luck though that get one thing repaired now two more different things wrong.
They have said they will honour correcting it if need be and the garage where i bought the car is covering cost of repair under warranty anyway its just a massive inconvenience. Was really just wondering if anyone had come across doing this and finding something like messing with the cables etc affected it after.Does seem like it will be box out again though!!!
