Hi. New member here.
Just bought my first berlingo - A 2008 multispace xtr 1.6 hdi.
I have a problem with the top mounts and springs.
The previous owner had just replaced both of these items but i was experiencing a horrible sound when turning the steering - turns out the top mount seems too small for the spring. The spring is catching the outer part of the top mount and not the inner bearing part, this is then causing the spring to spin in the leg as the top mount is then almost seized when turning the steering causing an almighty noise.
I have been to a motor factors and ordered new parts (top mount and spring) but they look exactly the same as the new parts already previously fitted and the top mount once again seems too small (narrow) for the spring.
The spring is catching the outer edge of top mount.
Two different motor factors are listing the same parts.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem trying to order these parts?
Does the xtr have different suspension parts to a regular berlingo?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Jarrod

It sounds as though something has not been fitted correctly.
The spring sits in a shaped mounting plate that has an angled part to capture the spring end. This plate then sits into the bearing/upper mount - the spring is nowhere near the mount itself.
There is no match between the spring diameter and the rubber top mount.
Try taking a picture of what you have in situ as that might lead to someone here spotting what is wrong!

Have you checked that the spring hasn't broken? its a fairly common fault (I've had 2 go on a 2010 XTR)

I note that you say previous owner replaced springs but have you checked that the spring isn't broken now? the noise you are describing is similar to the noise I experienced with a broken spring (I've had 2 go on a 2010 XTR)

Hi, thanks for everyone’s reply’s so far, I haven’t got any photos of it yet.
Yes I have taken it apart and the spring isn’t broken. It hasn’t done more than 5 miles since having the work done.
The spring and top mount fitted are exactly the same as new ones in the box from the motor factors go together.

Can you post, or PM your VIN? I'll take a look on the Servicebox parts database.

A thought ...and it may be impossible for this to be done ......but my original top mounts had a steel pin that located the mount in the correct position/holes in the turret, presumably for production line fitting. I seem to recall that a new mount I fitted lacked this pin.
Is it possible to bolt the top mount in the wrong position in the turret as there are a number of holes available, and might this throw the spring mount position too close to the turret/body?

Hi all, only now seeing replies.
From jj9’s picture it seems item no 3 is missing from my set up.
I’ll try and add some pics of what I’ve got.
