poor heater

Has anyone noticed what the temp gauge reads normally on a 1.6hdi mine is reading about 85c which seems about right to me, but the heater is bloody crap!
I'm thinking it might need a new thermostat... remember when you could get winter and summer ones ha ha, what a load of faffing that was.

if you search earlier threads the heaters on these are useless, mainly because [supposedly] the engine is so efficient it doesnt give off much heat.SO the experts say, but that doesnt help us freezing on these cold days. Alsio abroad one can get a shield to cover air intake on front, in UK its not an option.

I find it very difficult to maintain a steady temp in my Berlingo. Big cabin and lots of glass doesn't help, i guess.:S: cratch:

Ah those were the days. My dad made a silver foil cover for our Vivas radiator intake in the winter too, but... Does 85c sound normal though for the water temp?

I found the other thread, I don't buy the efficient engine theory as my mini has got the same engine (except cam chain) and the heater in that is awesome. Also people that work at the main dealers are full of s**t

So it's either:

Blocked/restricted matrix
Water pump weak
Thermostat stuck open
Air in system

Mine runs at 85 degrees as well. I cured the heater problem by enabling the electrical heating option with my Lexia. Turned on the option called "1000 Watt Resistor". Now when starting out I have nice warm air in about 30 seconds. Kick it off after the motor comes up to temp. It is -13 this morning and worked fine.

ok so what do we do with berlingo to improve this situation of poor heater guys?????

Try setting the air control to recirculate - the leftermost button.
This should prevent cold air being fed to the 'heater'.

Did that yesterday when it was -13 but the windows started to fog up. Turned it to outside air again and the windows cleared. The electrical heater kept us nice and toasty. The motor took a long time to reach running temp. Today it's -20 at present.

Mine runs at about 85c.
The heater is ok when been travelling for 3 hours!
I have very little glass, but loads of cold metal and no bulkhead.
Trying to heat up a large empty metal box.
Minus 7c this morning.
Positively barmy....

Oh and played in the snow this afternoon.
No winter tyres, no studs, no chains, no problems.
Toyo 175-14's doing their job.
(Was only 5cms of snow...)
