I have a 2004 2.0HDi van. Effectively one owner with 59k, pulls like a train and barely missed a beat. Timing belt and major service done 5 months ago. Yesterday I’m doing 40 mph going from 3rd to 4th, The gear selection (with the clutch depressed) crunches heavily and I lose 2, 4 and reverse. 1,3,5 still work but are harder to select than they should be. Anyone know what this is? the vehicle is edging it’s way (in first and third) to the great scrapyard in the sky sadly.

Possible gear linkage or clutch problem. Even if the worst case and needs a gearbox hardly reason to scrap an otherwise good van with such low mileage imo. You could get a good gearbox from a breakers cheap enough and change the clutch while it's all apart. Good for many years then

My niece had the same with her Peugeot Partner. I replaced the linkage and the new one is all metal with no rubber bushing, much better. On hers it was the longest of the three rods which had failed.
So where does this bit go then ?

Agreed, with that mileage I suspect it's worth the repair.
