Limp mode after dpf additive top up
#1
Hi guys. New to the forum.

This morning I removed and topped up the DPF fluid tank. It took a full 2 litres but nothing came out of the overflow.

Put it all back together, plugged in my OBD scanner and it's not reading any codes, despite the trip computer saying 'risk of filter clogging' and 'p add low'.

Now for the last couple of weeks I've been clearing those absolutely fine and it hadn't gone into limp mode.

The EML goes out when I erase codes (even though its not acknowledged any codes), however the service warning light stays on, and the van starts in limp mode.

I disconnected the battery for a few mins and no change.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Steve.

Assuming you are talking about the Eolys Tank located under the vehicle? Not the Adblue.

I had no idea there was a tank under the vehicle until it ran out.

Had a similar problem after a refill, a normal ODB scanner just threw up a generic code. If you have the Citroen software.....  which costs a lot....

Anyway, after filling the warning light came on, a quick trip to a friendly garage I use checked it and said the fault was low pressure in the tank.

All they did then was tell the vehicle a 'new' tank had been fitted. Fault disappeared.

It will probably need to be reset using Diagbox. If you search for eolys, you should find some more info on what's needed. If not, ask again & I'm sure someone will help.
It's probably better doing this sooner rather than later as the DPF may not be getting a regen to burn off the soot while the ECU thinks there's a problem.

I am assuming the fluid had run out which bought up your fault? When refilling the tank it needs to be reset with Citroen diag otherwise it thinks it’s still empty as there is nothing in the tank to tell it it has been refilled. It works out when it runs out by knowing how much is in there to start with as I understand it.

Hi, thanks for prompt replies.

Sorry, I should have been more specific with my question. I found it odd that it starts in limp mode now. I'd hoped that my scanner would at least be able to overthrow that.

I have got it out of limp mode now - I genuinely don't know how as I tried so many things.

The counter reset and subsequent service lights I'm going to have done during its MOT in the week.

I've got it home and I'm gonna play with my motorbike instead

Thanks again.

It's not throwing any codes at all though, let alone anything generic.

If you find the garage is wanting too much to do a reset and if you tell us roughly where you are, there may be a forum member close to you with lexia/diabox who may be willing to scan your car for you and reset the counter.
