Maybe just disconnect it then and go with that until you get it replaced. Sounds like its a workable solution!

Thanks Zion ..I did a "mini" ride around the block to made sure it wouldn't create extra problems but it ran sweetly so used it on a 45 run today (each way) and it was perfect! New sensors should be here early next week!!

That's useful to know for others with similar issues.

It was quite a long process to find the issue as the van had been running perfectly the whole year .. we started with plugs, then throttle body and MAS cleaning followed by a new fuel filter (long overdue as the original one could have been 13 years old as it was a Bosch made in Spain) Getting someone with a decent scanner was the brightness thing to do as it at least gives you faults and 7you know where to look. The forum of course is a hive of helpful information and credit must go to everyone that helped!! I think as cars become more and more reliant on ECM technology maybe an OBD2 scanner is a necessary investment !! Thanks again to everyone!!

Scanners...they've been needed for 20 years!
OBD equipped cars started in 1996....but by 2005, most cars ECUs were getting pretty sophisticated. By 2010 almost every system was ECU controlled and some cars had several ECMs for different functions.
12 years after that (now) there's no system without an ECM or ECU.
