[SOLVED - it was CAP NUTS] What are these called?

There are a few of these on the car, capping off the side and rear window levers. See the attached photo.

The paint is coming off them. I'd like to replace them or sort them out, but I don't even know what they are called! Anybody know? How would you go about fixing the paint job on them?

I think they are meant to be black.

Makes sense. I think I just read on a 205GTI forum that they turn white over time.

I'll check the seals, see if they need doing, if they look good I think I'll just try an in-situ paint job.
