Rear parking sensor removal
#11
(28-06-2022, 09:32 PM)Zion Wrote:  The sensors emit ultrasonic waves so there's no way you can tell if any of them are working, without watching live data from the parking assist ECU in Diagbox. Good sensors look exactly the same as bad ones to the human eye. You could buy an ECU of the exact same part number and it still not work.

One sensor gone bad, is enough to stop it working completely. The ECU won't need coding but you're fishing in the dark and may replace it all before you ever know what part was wrong.

Diagnostics/ live data using Citroen Diagbox is the only way you're going to know.

Nah Zion that's not correct, you can hear the sensors giving off a faint clicking sound when they are working.

@ Cooper,
Sounds like you have a dodgy sensor.

Check all of the sensors are working, a working sensor gives off a quiet clicking / ticking sound which you can hear if you put your ear close to it, listen to each senor in turn and if one isn't clicking that will probably be your problem.
(try giving the sensor a good thump, it has been known to work)

If you find one that isn't clicking swap it's location with one that is clicking to see if the fault moves with the sensor, this tests the wiring! (all sensors have to be connected for the system to work)

I know on my car you have to have the engine running for the system to operate, it doesn't work with just the ignition on, if yours is the same you will need a helper to keep the clutch depressed whilst you listen to the sensors.

Have a read through this thread...

I've got a new sensor which I swapped out.
I tried it with all 4 with no joy.
I can hear what sounds like white noise coming from them, no clicks but it was noisy outsid.

Thanks JJ, I've only had to work on the BMW system, but you would still know what was actually happening by using Diagbox live data.

I don't fancy kneeling behind the car while the wife holds the clutch down in reverse...sounds like a turkey voting for Xmas....eek!

Looks like you will have to use diagnostic equipment on this one then, otherwise as Zion said you're fishing in the dark.

The whole system is pretty robust including the ECU, it's normally always a duff sensor (s) that causes the system not to work.

There's videos on youtube showing how to give a sensor a good clean / blast out with WD40 etc, you could give that a try if you haven't already.

Yeah, the diagnostic way is the best but if you haven't got that at hand listening to the sensors for the clicking sound gives you a clue, I've managed to fix two systems on different cars by finding a none clicking sensor.

Yes, you need a helper you can trust when behind the car  Wink , you may not need the engine running on all models but it
was definitely the case on my berlingo.

Spot on mate, I noticed my B9 sensors only worked when the engine was actually running. Makes it a bugger to check without a helper.

Just tried all the above, except Diagbox as I don't have one. Need to pick one up.
Which is the best to get?

It's software and has a dedicated interface that's needed to work with it. Has to be installed on a Windows 7 computer as it doesn't work well on windows 10. Available on eBay and needs to be the full kit, interface and software. Usually termed v7.83 - check the how-to's on usage and versions.

Installation is not straight forward, takes time and patience.

Cheers. Ordered one the other day, looks a useful bit of kit.
Don't need it now as I've fixed it.
Ended up being a loose wire on the outer sensor.
All working perfectly, you don't realise how much you rely on them.
