2003 1.6 petrol Coolant temperature sensor location
#1
Hi, I believe I have a faulty temperature sensor as my fan doesn't engage when the engine gets hot a lot of the time. It works every so often so I know the fan isn't broken, I want to change the sensor to see if it fixes it but I can't find it. If anyone could help that would be great. I've watched lots of videos but none are for the right model and it doesn't seem to be in the same place as other models.
Thank you

Is this the TU5JP4 engine? If it is that one, the coolant temperature sensor is on the thermostat. Here is a photo, the arrow points to the coolant temperature sensor, the green thing. In this video, it is on the opposite end of the first bleeding point (https://youtu.be/An0ClZBverw?t=647).
How hot does it get before the fan kicks in?

I believe so, it kicks in about 100 degrees when it does kick in which was normal for the last 2 years but now it doesn't kick in at all most of the time. It decided to work for about a week last week now it doesn't kick in again.

Might it benefit from bleeding the system as there may be an air lock in the stat  housing ?

Do not quite remember at what temp my 1.6 petrol puts the fan on, but in the back of my mind is something >90C, so it could be 100C. See oilyrag's comment about the bleeding, worth a try.

Anyway, if you are to replace the temp sensor, you would need to drain/refil/bleed the system.

I've found it, I don't even need to remove the air filter to see it, I was just being blind. It was a bit dirty and not very green any more so it was popping out at me.
I'll try bleeding the system, thank you ?
