Hello all, we are in need of urgent assistance.
Our 2013 Berlingo Multispace 1.6 HDi is having some issues.
We have travelled to the south of France from the UK
First of all after arriving in France, we had a catastrophic failure where the engine went into limp mode. We managed to get to our first stop and called Europ Assistance.
The Car went to the garage and the DPF had a major crack in it. This has since been replaced at some expense at the garage, A Citroen one I might add.
However, further issues have now appeared.
Firstly, the DPF error about possible clogging has reappeared whilst on the autoroute, Not all the time, but enough for us to worry again.
Mind you, it has been above 35 degrees C all the way down, and it is possible that the car is not liking the ambient temp and the long journey.
Once in the South of France, upon going round their rather tight slip road curves, we get Oil pressure error all the time. On the straights it is fine.
However this is a very worrying situation.
The water levels are fine, as is the Oil level. I have checked this several times over the last couple of days.
The car was serviced only 3 weeks ago prior to our trip.
Needless to say, we are getting stressed with it all, hence why I have joined the forum with the the hope of some potential resolutions.
Many thanks in advance for your urgent responses.
Cheers
Iain

Welcome!
Maybe the oil is getting a bit thin in the heat and moving around a bit more in the sump in the corners, if it's fine on the straight then it's probably ok but there are others on here that live in hot climates who might want to comment. Any ideas on what grade of oil they put in on the service?
As for the DPF, if it's new, it should be ok, perhaps the garage did not reset the DPF via software when it was replaced?

If there was an actual oil pressure issue - ie falling below something like 10psi - then this would be most apparent when the oil was hot and the car was ticking over, rather than when running at high revs. If it generates a message at tickover which goes away as revs rise then it could be (as above) down to oil thinning. If it stays on as revs rise then it could simply be the sensor or faulty oil pick up pipe.
If the same check is carried out when the engine is cold and no problems show up its likely to be the type of oil used.
The long curves could well be (as above) having a centrifugal effect and slopping the oil up the sides of the sump and the oil pickup pipe is no longer submerged.
If the oil is at max then this is worth keeping a close eye on, as the engine is starved of oil when the pick up is either exposed, or possibly cracked.
I'll have a look at my manual and see what the pick up looks like.

Can't find anything useful in my book, but maybe someone here has experience of this engine & its oil pump set-up?

There may be a difference between the 16v & 8v engines, but on the earlier 16v the oil pickup is about 1/3 of the way along the sump from the cambelt end (IIRC), I'm not sure about the 8v. As this is on a B9, I'm guessing it's the later 8v. However if the message is about oil level as opposed to oil pressure (?), the sensor might be at the front / middle of the sump.

The sensor is notoriously unreliable on the B9 and the dipstick is best for assurance. I know it will be frightening to get an oil message, level warnings when the dipstick shows ok are fine to ignore, but pressure warnings may well be an indication of a problem. It would be worth getting the sump dropped and checked for gelling or other issues where the oil turns to thick deposits at the bottom.
This can happen if different oils are used for topping up to what was originally in there, like mixing fully synth with regular mineral or semi-synth. I've had this on Audi as there was conflicting info when the 1.8T was introduced leading to garages using two different oil types, leading to sludge forming in the sump.

I did last month trip from Spain to Croatia, and back, was also hot,A/C was always on and engine temperature was spot on like always, that means also highway drive longer period can handle it without problem.
Did also visit oficial dealer regarding some light issue they told me that dpf is 100% clogged according to diagnostics,i didn't noticed no engine power loss nor similar, have told them okay clean it up,afterwards also didn't noticed change.
One strong advice, prior to going on longer trips, avoid to to mainteinance works or service, because happens often that something goes wrong on the way, sounds strange, but did heard so much experience that myself also if going on trip,at least month before i do servicing works,so that if something is wrong that i can see it still when i am home.
