Service prices

Rang local Citroen stealer today to enquire about servicing prices.
Was quoted £148 including VAT, parts & labour.
Dealer 'approved' parts used and dealer 'trained' technicians.
Citroen genuine parts and Citroen trained technicians is £30 more.
This was for a 62,500mile/5year service.
Price seemed reasonable?
Wonder what the Forum thought, and whether 'approved' or 'Citroen' route is best?

Depends what you get for your £148.00, have you a breakdown of what they do for that?

Previously I was quoted nearly £100.00 for a service that amounted to little more than an oil change and that was a Citroen Dealership wholly owned by Citroen and not local to Martin or myself, seemed a bit dear???.

Equally,For my previous Pug306 I have used a local "One-Man-Band" independant garage whose prices seemed reasonable but who used non-gen. parts, a bit rough and ready and what bit I saved was absorbed by the "nail biting" will the non-gen be ok or not...

Certainly in the short term I will be doing my own servicing as long as my health is ok but will farm out any large or mauling jobs...

Oil change on its own was £80.
The interim 'special offer' for £99 seems to be an oil change and check everything else.
Is the £148 service I was quoted the same as the £99 special?
Need an oil change; check other stuff myself.
Would the £99 special give piece of mind, too?
Or would it bring up problems that they 'recommend' sorting, and end up with a big 'unnecessary' bill?
Or am I too sceptical....

Didn't think it was possible to be "Too sceptical" !!!

Having previously worked in the trade I am very wary of "Tyre Kickers" and in a previous employ having had lease cars that had to go to main stealers for servicing, I too am very sceptical...

A decent set of car ramps, park the motor in the street over the nearest grid, whip the sump plug out, oil down the grid, no mess and no oil to dispose of afterwards. piece of ....cake. Joking of course.

Hey Martin , are you looking to keep a warranty intact by using stealership ? I kinda presumed that you would have mechanics at your fingertips with your Team Edge contacts , apologies in advance if I've completely missed the point somewhere along the line :S

Hopefully the oil down the grid was a joke.

Definitely catch your oil and dispose at the tip. Otherwise some wildlife in your nearest water-way will be rather un-happy.

Main dealer service prices are scary when you consider what's actually involved.

I was of course joking though no doubt it does go on in certain areas..

I appreciate the toilet humour lol. Always get my car serviced by reliable local guy using genuine parts etc.
