[Engine] leaking exhaust fumes behind the engine
#1
Hi.

Problem With my 2008 Berlingo 1.6 diesel. Exhaust fumes comes into the car when standing still. I have recently changed the EGR valve. But I don’t think it’s coming from there.

When I stand in front of the car looking at the engine. I have the EGR to the right behind the engine nearby the diesel filter. But it smells more exhaust from the left side of the engine. There is a aluminium pipe from the top of the engine on the left side that leads to the EGR valve behind the engine. Is there anything else behind the engine that can leak exhaust??

Best wishes

Magnus

How did you secure the EGR cooler connection to the EGR valve when it was replaced? If that is not secured well enough it will leak exhaust gasses. The pipe you describe is the EGR going back to the engine.

Secure?
Sounds like I might have a problem there….
So how can I check it. Do I have to change the cooler?
Is there any pictures that shows how it should look behind the engine. There are so very tight to do anything in that region. Smile

It feels like there is only this pipe from the egr back to the engine. Where should the cooler be?

The EGR cooler should be OK, I only meant the connection from the cooler to the EGR valve. In order to remove the EGR valve you need to have removed the bracket that holds the EGR valve to the EGR cooler. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTQtVJEqGXI

Ok. I’ll check that! Thank you.
Wish I had a Partner. Looks like it’s so much more space there. In my berlingo it’s impossible to see anything behind the engine. Even harder to do something there. Is it a lot of work to remove the plastic panels under the windscreen ?
