Hello forum people. I joined up because I've just bought a 2008 1.6hdi multispace to use on camping trips. It doesn't seem too bad but I'm going to be servicing it and changing the timing belt before long as it's done 71k miles. Starting in August I'm planning to do some joinery in the back to make a slide out camp kitchen and organise the kit storage.

Hey William. Glad you got fixed up with a motor, knew you were on the lookout for a Berlingo from living down the road. You're in the right place for helpful advice

If you're doing the belt, get the water pump replaced at the same time as it seems to be the biggest killer of timing belts.

I noticed there's a section on it and I shall be perusing it in detail. I'll be giving it a gradual mechanical once-over first though. The car seems great but nothing makes a bloke feel more of a chump than a timing belt snapping after he's spent a few weeks fooling about with carpentry when he ought to have been skinning his knuckles under the bonnet
