Hi all,
Thanks for letting me in.
Have a 2013 1.6HDI Berlingo and the water pump went within 50k of the last changed. The belt as slipped and lost some teeth. I was doing about 10MPH. What sort of damage can I expect?
Kind Regards

Proper investigation needed but the conmmon damage is broken rockers, tappets and lobes on the camshaft pusshed out of line. Thes camshafts are not forged items but are built up with the lobes pressed onto steel bar

Spot on Pete.
The most common outcome from that is a few broken rockers and spun cam lobes. The cam is a tubular design with the lobes pressed on. Chris & Rob on Salvage Rebuilds have done loads of these with the same issue and always needed a cam, and a few rockers. Not one has had valve damage.
The cam lobes and rocker arms are sacrificial. They have never even had to pull the head, just whip the cam out and all broken rockers then fit a new cam, rockers, water pump and belt, time it up and you are usually good to go.
You can see their videos on YouTube under Salvage Rebuilds UK where they show a good few 1.6 HDi with burst timing belts being repaired. The water pump seems to be the main culprit for killing the belt.

Slipped belt by 5 teeth after new water pump failed after 2 years and 40k!!
It’s moved 5 camshaft lobes but rockers look fine.
