[Transmission] Transmission swap
#1
First off I'd like to say hi to everyone and I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I couldn't find much information so I decided to start a new thread. (maybe i looked in all the wrong places)

So i own a manual 2012 Berlingo Multispace 1.6 hdi B9 for about 6 years now, for a bit of a back story its a wheelchair accessible vehicle, and i have only been using it as a passenger(in my wheelchair) for now. Six years is a long time, so as it stands it no longer suits my needs, its time for me to get some more freedom so i have been thinking of ways to adapt it to my needs so I can actually be independent and drive it myself. Was looking at different vehicles that are already ready for my needs but needless to say my salary is not following the price increase of those vehicles.

To keep it short for now, I would like to know if its possible to swap the 5 speed manual for an automatic, and what parts (part numbers) would i need. I do understand it might not be cost efficient but it seems like the better option as things stand.

Cheers!

best option is to sell the car and get a car with auto gearbox

I agree, it is not a viable project to convert to auto, especially if you will need to pay for all the labour charges. Sell what you have and use the money to buy what you want.

How many and what adaptations are there in the car already?

And who decided on a manual back when that car was converted?

Is there a school with a mechanics class and workshop nearby?
If so, it might be possible to get them to do the conversion, as long as you get the parts.

Thanks but unfortunately I didn't have much luck selling the car for now, the wav market is not doing too hot overhere where I am.

Its the API conversion (quick google will pop up a few pics), so its got a ramp, cut and lowered floor in the back etc.

The previous/first owners of the conversion have made the decision i assume, and this car wasn't my first choice back in 2016. I was looking for a dsg caddy maxi specifically because it would be easier to convert for me now.

I'm not worried about labour i have a few solutions for that at worst its gonna be super cheap otherwise should be for free.

So i just need to figure out the parts i need and what kind of reprogramming if any, to decide if its gonna be viable for me.

i imagine that that API conversion alone is quite expensive. So yeah, it might be cheaper to rebuild your current car.
Is there a breaker's yard nearby?
They should be able to help you get the parts off a similar car.

But it probably need to get the BSI reprogrammed to make it work.

Yeah used converted cars are often valued 1.5-2x the amount of the standard car.

None of the yards had any Berlingos online but I'm gonna have a look in person soon, that's on my to do list anyway, automatics are really rare overhere in general.

Would you happen to know which models share the parts (other than Partner)? I remember looking into this a while back and i think the C4 Grand Picasso and 3008 share the same automatic gearbox if I'm not wrong. The box itself would probably be easier to find like this I'm not sure how the electronics side of things would work out like that.
