start stop system
#1
The engine will now never go into standby when I brake, and has been in this state for many weeks, even after long trips, which I assumed would get the battery fully charged. Is this a problem I can just ignore, and assume I will get a warning light if the battery is dangerously low? I get the green flashing curly arrow on braking, but have assumed this indicates a lack of full charge/low temp/engine not running for long enough, but it will react in the same way any conditions now.

Hi
I have a 2016 B9 & have had a couple of new batteries.
From new & each time they have been replaced, the stop start system works for approx 3 months.
I assume the stop\start only works when the battery is in tip top condition

I have a K9 1.2 petrol van registered 2020 which I purchased with only 10 miles on the clock. The Stop/Start has never operated (now 12000 miles). Just get the flashing symbol which I think indicates i'ts not available due to battery discharge rate.

I've also found that with the engine off and using auxiliaries like hazard flashers these go off after a few minutes due I believe to the "Eco Mode' activating to protect the battery.

At the moment I'm not concerned about this mainly because I don't like the Stop/Start facility anyway and my battery seems to check out ok so I think it is just Eco mode being quite sensitive.

Might be worth switching the air conditioning off and anything else that's loading the battery and see if there is a difference.

I copied into a post a few months ago what the handbook says about the stop/start. It does seem to have a window when it works and other times, not.

Regarding the Stop/Start - the handbook says the following -

"Main conditions for operation
– The driver’s door must be closed.
– The sliding side door must be closed.
– The driver's seat belt must be fastened.
– The state of charge of the battery must be
sufficient.
– The temperature of the engine must be within
its nominal operating range.
– The outside temperature must be between
0°C and 35°C.

Special cases:
The engine will not go into standby if all of the
conditions for operation are not met and in the
following cases.
– Steep slope (ascending or descending).
– Vehicle has not exceeded 6 mph (10 km/h)
since the last engine start (with the key or the
“START/STOP” button).
– The electric parking brake is applied or being
applied.
– Needed to maintain a comfortable temperature
in the passenger compartment.
– Demisting active.
In these cases, this indicator lamp flashes
for a few seconds, then goes off.
After the engine has restarted, STOP
mode is not available until the vehicle
has reached a speed of 5 mph (8 km/h).
During parking manoeuvres, STOP mode
is not available for a few seconds after
coming out of reverse gear or turning the
steering wheel."
Now a 2019 K9 1.2 petrol.
Before a 2010 B9 1.6 HDi diesel.

But does your battery keep going though not in tip top condition after 3 months? ie, the problem is not an indication of continuous deterioration of the battery?  thanks for your input, and I think that I will just ignore what seems a minor problem, in the hope that the battery will not just die on me.

If you are running with the aircon on in the current hot weather the stop/start does not work - as per the handbook bit above – "Needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the passenger compartment".

Yes, the battery will keep on going. My berlingo has done 210,000km, it's just had its 3rd battery installed
