Cruise control disengaging fault
#1
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with their cruise control cutting out by its self. I have a lhd 2014 1,6 hdi multispace 84kw 115pk with 174k km on it. The car runs great, recent cam belt replaced plus new aircon compressor installed, hoping to keep it for a few more years until euro5 diesels are banned from the city center here in Belgium. Recently the factory installed cruise control is cutting out by its self, after approx 10mins or so it suddenly cuts out without touching the brake or clutch pedal or cruise control/speed limiter switch gear. Has anyone had a similar problem ?
Any advise appreciated
thanks

There was a thread on here some time ago about the gear position sensor being faulty. It could also be a very sensitive brake or clutch switch. Does the same happen in 4th gear or when you lightly touch the brake or clutch pedal?

Hi thanks for your reply, I haven't tried engaging cruise in 4th gear, I'll try that and also lightly touching brake and clutch pedal to see if it there is a dodgy switch.

There is no gear position sensor on the manual transmission, there is only a reverse gear sensor.

It determines which gear is engaged by the RPM/speed ratio.

Good point. Maybe in light of the above a better word might have been 'sensing'. In any case, the ECU knows what gear it's in and I can understand how it might determine that from revs / road speed.
I think this is the thread that was in my mind when I wrote my first reply:
