Engine cuts out randomly
#1
Hi, New to the Forum & Berlingos/partners.

I do plan on sticking around, the forum is a wealth of information, which I have been searching through to try & diagnose the issue I'm having, but no luck.
I've had my van a couple of weeks & it drives lovely. It's a 1.6 hdi 90bhp on a 13 plate. But on odd occasions it will cut out, usually when accelerating. It first did it when overtaking, the dash made a beep & I noticed the stop light come on & engine management. All gagues dropped but the revs held for a few seconds then dropped to zero. I couldn't bump it & had to pull over & restart the engine. Drove fine afterwards. Wasn't a great situation as I slowed the car I overtook down as I was getting it onto a grass verge.
Have tried to replicate the fault but there is no pattern to it. It's random but I've noticed it more when I'm accelerating.
Have plugged a cheap obd reader in, but nothing has come up.
I'm scared to go on any fast roads or motorways!

I inspected the wiring to the crank sensor & tried to unbolt it but it won't come out, might have to remove the pulley?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. ?
Thanks.

In the absence of...... I'd suggest getting someone with a smarter reader, ideally one that sees live data, to see what is happening  via any codes or stray readings. You could spend a lot of time and money trying to change random 'poke and hope' parts and still be no closer.
I'd take a guess that the previous owner may have been aware........ Blush

It could be many things, Turbo boost error, fuel pressure sensor fault, electrical issue, oil level sensor error, fuel pump, as Oilyrag says you really need pro-level diagnostics, ideally Citroen Diagbox but Snap-On and Autel MaxSys can also get to this level of codes and live data.

Generic OBD readers (especially cheap ones) can often either find nothing or lead you down the wrong road. Best to get a PSA independent or someone with good garage diagnostic kit to check it over. (not to say a dealer, but someone who deals with PSA vehicles a lot or at least has pro diagnostic kit)

Thank you gents. I guess your right. Was just trying to see if it was a common fault. Had it plugged in on a snap on reader and it brought up three codes. U1308, u1108 & u1208. "No communication with engine management ECU". Googling them doesn't narrow it down much either. Appreciate the replies. Thanks
