Well you would think that the switch to turn on interior light would be the same thing that activates the door open warning. Maybe needs replacing. Should be able to connect wires together on the back of the switch and see if light comes on?
It's a single wire, when grounded it signals the BSI that the door is open. One terminal of the switch goes directly to earth.

I'm pretty certain there is no external switch like you'd expect to find, it's built into the door lock / latch mechanism. (On the door itself, not the frame.)

Just thinking. The remote locking works so I would presume this should activate the lights when the door opens? Should there be a latch or something on the handle.

Open a front door, roll the latch (flick it closed as if the door was shut, using a screwdriver) - wait for the lights to go out, then pull the handle to unlatch the door (which is still open) - the front interior lights will go on.
I've attached the schematics for passenger lighting, 1 & 2 & 3. The contacts are definitely in the lock mechanisms on the doors themselves. They connect to the BSI and also the lighting units. 6202 is the RHS door for example. The BSi turns the lights on when the door signals it is open, subject to the ECO mode timer not expiring.

I want to add some LED strip lights in my load area. Can I connect them to the back of my courtesy light?
I popped the light out and can see 1 plug plugged into the back of it with spare ports available for plugs. Can I connect to one of these ports with the red and black lighting wire?
You'll have to follow the diagrams above and decide.
All lighting is controlled and powered from the BSI.
I connected my front camera monitor to the map light bulb terminals and the BSI powers it all the time now when the ignition is on. This also caused the bulb to be lit constantly, which got hot so I pulled the bulb.
Be aware the BSI will do weird things when you connect up LEDs. Multiplexer lighting systems are not like old school car lighting.
