Hi all ,i have 1.9d berlingo forte 2003 model, can anyone explain how to remove the gearstick ?? I am trying to solve the floppyness ?? there is no play in the three rods up front ,little play on the main rod coming from gearstick to ball joint up front ,so i am thinking the play might be with the gearstick itself, been under car but cant see any nuts or anything holding it there !!.i removed gearstick gaiter and i can see four studs there but nothing there to put a spanner to ,help needed ,thanks in advance GWYN ??

The gear stick assembly drops downwards after the odd shaped 'domed' nuts (look like 10mm or smaller) are removed with a deep socket or box spanner from the long studs that you can see.

I have a feeling that the 'ball' section at the bottom of the lever may not come to pieces, but at least you'll be able to feel how much play there is and to decide whether a replacement is worthwhile. Maybe try searching for a repair kit or a replacement lever assembly.

Hi Zion you ok ?? ,well as i stated i am not very technically minded ,im a monkey see monkey do sort of person,so i dont know if you will understand what i put in writing !!here goes ,drove car up on ramps, got under car by gearstick ,there was a lot play on the headless bolt that held it to the main gearshift rod, undid the nut holding them together, had to hammer the mainshaft off the stud, couldn't remove the stud ,but thats where all the play was, there was some sort of non meral sleeve on the threaded stud ,so i put an eighth width washer on first ,put some grease on the stud and slid it back on to the main shaft ,out a narrower washer on then a spring washer and tightened it back up and its good as new,and being i am 75 years old i am very pleased with myself , hope you've uhderstood what ive written , Gwyn

I get it Gwyn, sounds like you did a good job mate, not so easy crawling about under a car these days for me either so I admire your getting on with it at 75! Well done.
If I have to lay on the ground for hours fixing stuff, I hurt a wee bit for days afterwards.
