Rear wheel camber on one side
#1
Hi.

I have a Peugeot partner on an 03 plate, I believe this and the Berlingo are essentially the same.

The rear passenger wheel is tilting in at the top - not horrifically but more than the other side.

From the reading I have been doing this could be the axle bearing - but I wanted to see if anyone had anything similar happen?

I don't fancy spending £300 on a recon if it can be helped.

There's no easy way round that and a recon or good second-hand axle is possibly the best option. It's not going to fall off, but tyre wear and possible MoT issues will dicate. Good luck.

mmm...

So I jacked up the van today and there is no movement top or bottom or side to side at all. If it was a bearing I would expect some movement?

After looking with the wheels off it seems as though the angle of the passenger side drum is off giving it the camber. I'm beginning to wonder if the trailing arm bent and that is the problem.

Either way think it might be a full axle

It isn't necessarily a doom scenario, my last Berling had a similar appearance and the mot man just kept on sailing it through without issue, I did ask him directly about it as I know him personally and he assured me it was ok and that he'd done me no favours either ( my wife is fussy on safety issues ! )

Anyway, when is the mot due / when was it done last ?

My current Berlingo also has a similar appearance which is exagerated when parked according to road camber, no issue on this vehicle either.

Are you also known elsewhere as Mr Chimps ?

The wheel bearing probably isn't part of the issue - it's the one at the point where the trailing arm meets the large cross-tube that contains the torsion bars, hence it looking as though the trailing arm is 'bent'.  There is a lot of force applied by the torsion bars and there won't be any obvious movement - a little wear there is exaggerated at the wheel rim.
