Van Rouge to Van Vert
#1
Hi all,
I decided to tackle the nasty cosmetics on my 2003 2.0HDI van and completed it on a budget of under £100
I finished it in Satin “Patina Green” applied with a microfibre roller.
It’s not one for the purists but it gives my van another lease of life and is perfect for my fishing trips.

What a grand job - my red 2002 has some lacquer peel - mainly to the roof - and I'm tempted to follow suit with hand-panting as the car is likely to stay with me until it can run no more!  I'm hoping that I can get some suitable tractor paint that is a close enough match - do you get any fibre-shedding from the roller?

Initially I had some fibre shredding but that was my own fault, it was a really hot day and the paint was drying so fast. Once I took the van into the shade it was fine. It’s better to paint in the cooler evening and out of the sun.
I recommend using “Two Fussy Blokes” rollers because the finish is superior and the others I used just fell to pieces.

I used Military paint, it’s easy to apply and give a tough durable finish.
There are Hundreds of colours available. https://www.paints4trade.com/military-ve...2151-p.asp

Good luck.

Did you take the rubber seals off around the doors?  If so, what did you use to fix them back?

All rubber seals pulled straight off and pushed straight back on again afterwards. They just grip-fit.

That looks a fantastic job, really thorough.

I was going to roller my van in red oxide primer but A: I was knackered after flatting the roof, and B: the red oxide I got was more pink than red so went a slightly different route, I will post some pictures sometime...
My van: 2008 Berlingo 1.6 HDi Enterprise - a bit ratty!

Thanks, it was hard going but it was much easier and quicker using the orbital sander.

I’d like to see your photos.

Ah, that's different to my M49, where at least the outer seals (the grooved ones running along the top of the doorframe) are glued on.

Did you roller all of it or was a small brush necessary for fiddly bits?

There are foam rollers specifically for gloss paint so you don't have any fibres to shed.
So where does this bit go then ?
