Performance drilled / grooved disks
#1
Anyone fitted drilled and grooved disks to a 2006 Desire 1.6 Hdi?
A vendor on ebay says he has some that will fit but I've read about different sized disks.

From what I can make out the 266 is standard and the bigger disks are for cars with ESP which mine does not have.

To confuse matters I measured my current disks at 258!

Standard discs are 266, and nominally yours are that - the rim rusts off and as long as there's clearance with the caliper casting then all is well.
Not sure if you are going to reap the benefit of the smarter discs unless you use brake pads that perform a lot better than the standard ones - maybe EBG type.

Why bother ? Just get good quality standard like Pagid or Brembo and spend the difference on quality pads for road use
So where does this bit go then ?

I always fit drilled and grooved disks with "fast road" pads to every car I've ever owned when the disks require replacement.
I find stopping performance is improved four fold after doing so as long as your tyres are up to it and since I have Continental Contact TS860's imported from Germany that stick like sh1t to a blanket it's all good  Big Grin

You may like the sound of this - get yourself a set of calipers, disks and pads off a Pug 307 136 diesel - they are 302mm diameter and if you take everything off the 307 (calipers, mounting brackets etc.) it's a straight fit.
Certainly a cheaper upgrade to rip those off a car at breakers than it is to fit grooved discs.
Downside is they need at least 16s to fit under and ideally 17s.
Good brakes, ran them as a cheap upgrade on most of my baguettes.

I fitted some cheap Valeo drilled discs to my 2005 1.6 petrol and some brembo pads, they certainly stop well, even after coming down off a mountain road, although that have worn in a strange wavy pattern.
