[Filters & Oil] Ventilation cavity cleaning
#1
Hi fellow Berlingo drivers.
My 2014 Multispace has a space between the front wiper spindles and the bonnet, I expect they all do. There is a cavity under here which has a plastic mesh grille. The cavity has some rubbish that has passed through the grille and accumulated over time, and I would like to remove it. However, I can't see an obvious way of getting into the cavity. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers - Andrew

Also, how is it drained? Is there a drain that needs cleaning periodically?

after you clean what is covering the holes (round small drain holes) put a water hose with high pressure and wash all the dirt that is inside the round holes, all done Smile

put your hand under the black foam/sponge like rubber, where the pillar meets the bonnet, under there are drain holes

this is an image with the left/right black foam

Make sure NOT to put a hose onto the air intake plenum where the fan pulls air into the cabin...

To clean the intake area, you will need to remove the wiper arms and the seal which runs along the edge of that section, then look for the clips holding that trim on top of the heater air intake. I'll get a closer look at mine soon and take some pics.

I took the scuttle panel out yesterday and inspected and cleaned the intake area. My blower had stopped working and there was water near the fan. I was surprised that there didn't seem to be any drain holes as the rain easily enters the grille. There was a sodden sponge layer in the intake cavity and a water channel that lets water flow to it? Doesn't this sponge get mouldy and stinky? Seems like a poor design unless I'm missing something?

Use a pressure washer for that but be careful, so no water gets onto the engine. You might even cover the air filter and the electrical wires to prevent the water from getting on them. Pressure washing is my favorite way to clean a car, but you still need to be careful with it.

If you don’t have a pressure washer or don’t want to do it yourself, you might ask experienced pressure washing professionals to help you with that. They know how to clean cars correctly and will do it carefully to remove all the dirt and dust from even the most difficult-to-reach places.

Do NOT use a pressure cleaner for that area. You will damage the BSI computer and live to regret it. I have a funny feeling in my SPAM bone about this new post.....

Thanks for the pic, it is worth a million words!

I think I recognise those but they are almost falling to bits.

I'll check today because the rain is coming down in gallons per square inch.

I will be taking a look because still I have not got a wire from the engine bay tin to the cab. Sad Sad
