Flasher/Blinker/Indicator circuit - Aftermarket central locking
#1
Hi all,

I have just fit an aftermarket central locking kit to my 2001 M49 as it did not have any central locking from the factory. It is all installed and working, but I have yet to connect the wires for the flasher/blinker/indicator (pick your region specific term). The central locking unit has its own built-in relay, so as far as I know, I just need to tap into the circuit and it will control the flashing.

It appears that the M49 does not use a simple flasher relay, so I cant just tap in after that..

Can anyone tell me where about (preferably on the interior fuse box, or wiring) that I could tap in to make the flashers/blinkers/indicators work?

Thanks in advance

Not sure if yours has a BSI at its model year, but if it did, that would prevent you tapping in anywhere to flash the indicators. I can't pull up an M49 diagram at home but if no one posts one up before Monday, I'll get on ServiceBox when I'm back at work.

Im pretty sure it does has a BSI. But even so, I could tape the circuit after the BSI, surely. As I said, the central locking unit has its own relay to 'flash' the lights. All I really need is a convenient location after the BSI, that runs to the left/right indicators.

I'll grab those shortly. Still very new to all this Citroen stuff (RPO).

RPO = 08835FV (8835)

I found if you add a secondary load like an LED for instance, to a BSI output, that output turns on and stays on...no idea why. The BSI can "see" the thing you have connected and operates the output constantly. Possessed French multiplexers huh.

Probably a relay wouldn't do the same as the contacts present no load at all.

Any idea where the BSI is located on my M49? I'd like to have a poke around

Should be under the drivers side dashboard in the old vans.

Here's a good write-up on them, shows both PCBs.

Unfortunately, your VIN didn't work in my version of ServiceBox and only 1 online VIN decoder of the few that I tried came up with your car.
From that, it looks like you have a 1.6l petrol Berlingo with 5 seats?

It got a bit more interesting in the SEDRE wiring diagrams with several questions that I'd not seen before about the car configuration so I made a few assumptions and got a diagram for the indicator circuit, see attached. I've also added the central locking diagram in case it gives any clues about how the indicators are wired. If it does not look like your wiring, it will probably need a few more details, or perhaps a different version of SEDRE / ServiceBox. My versions are for Peugeot which is why you'll see the diagrams are for a Pug Partner, but a Citroen VIN normally works.
