Hello
#1
Hello and thanks for letting me join.

I'm Ed and I'm in my late 40's separated with a 10yr old daughter.

The plan is to get a Berlingo Camper conversion that I can use as a daily driver/commuter

My budget is about £2500 for the vehicle and about but not limited to £500 for the conversion.

I'm looking to find out what is the best engine to get. I did have a 1.9D 54 reg Forte about 5 yrs or so ago as a hand me down
The problem I found was it was a bit gutless and started to have trouble starting even after the glow plugs where changed.

I could do with pointing in the right direction on what to look out for when buying/viewing vehicles.

I would also, if possible, like the opportunity to have a look at any members vehicles so I can
Get an idea of what I can and cannot do? I'm located in Tewkesbury.

Anyway, thanks again for letting me in and I hope to become a valued member of the community.

PS is there any way of making the forum layout mobile friendly as I only have internet on my mobile?

Thanks again

Ed

Hi Ed, and welcome to the forum. A lot of folk here are camper fans, so you should learn a few useful things.

On the mobile Vs pc versions of the forum, it's not possible to change the layout directly but you can try an app called TapaTalk for mobile, it's dedicated to forum use. Not used it myself for a while but it is still around and widely used.

If you want an engine that has some grunt, the 2.0 HDi is probably the one to go for. Regular servicing and a strong battery will see most diesels start reliably and continue to do so for many years.

The main issue you will have with that budget is the vehicle will be a fair old age and potentially have higher miles. Then it depends on how far age has gotten hold of it and how well the previous owners have maintained it. I wish you the best of luck however and look forward to seeing your journey to camper happiness!

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I have been looking at Berlingos and had a feeling that I would be looking at a 08 ish car with 100k plus millage.

That doesn't really worry as long as it's solid underneath.

I have a look at the tap talk app.

Thanks Ed
