Reduce your insurance premium by 27%
#1
Point of this post: Always, Always, Always add 2nd driver.

I’ve owned a B9 multispace for 3 years. Last year premium was £456:31, this year £559:92. Opted for Maximum £500 vol excess, driving 6000 miles annually, no commute as I’m retired.
Tried every comparison site and even those not listed on those sites.
Closest I could get was £883 but most quoted over £1000.
Driving accident free 67 years. Driving conviction free 67 years. No claims bonus 67 years. Pleaded for mercy without effect and just as I was about to submit I realised I should ask what effect adding a second driver would have. RESULT!
I gave full details of one of my daughters and was astounded to get a REFUND of £148:31 which landed in my bank account within 3 days.
That’s a Whopping 27% discount folks, grab that phone right now. It matters not if the named driver will never get to drive the car, just do it!
Most readers will be astounded by the high cost with such good credentials.
The reason is AGE related, I’m a month away from being 85 years old. Watch out!

Does it have to be a relative?

I wouldn’t have thought so. More the quality of the 2nd drivers records.
My daughter has her own car and clean sheets for 40+ years.
They need full details and preferably drivers licence number.
Choose carefully to get the best discount is my advice.

Cheaper insurance and voluntary excess .....

I find it useful when getting car insurance prices online to manually interrogate the quote prior to purchase to see how the policy price will vary according to differing excess rates.

Surprisingly setting the " tick box " to a zero voluntary excess rather than the higher levels selected by the website by default will see no increase in policy price which is something most folks wouldn't expect or even think about. A difference of several hundred pounds isn't to be sneezed at.

Seems to work well for me so I advised my sons and grandsons of this quirk.

Naturally the above is only of real value in the event of a claim something which nobody ever wants to experience ... lol !

Now there’s a point I overlooked. Something for me to remember at renewal date in almost 12 months time. Thank you so much for this tip.

You are welcome hope it works for you.

I just re-read my post and note I should have said " often sees "  intead of " will see " no increase in policy price

but I'm sure folks will have got the jist of my typing .... lol

It doesn't work the other way; i.e take out in parents name and offspring is really the principal driver. Insurers will investigate in the event of a prang and it can invalidate.

I agree, and quite rightly so. What does work though is to add an offspring while they’re learning therefore always ensuring the policy holder is the accompanying driver and the learner is always supervised. The low extra premium for this which can be done online if required can be as low as £20 monthly. This is certainly the case with Churchill.
