Rear O/S Sliding Door Handle Disassembly

Good evening, 

Just looking for instruction on Door Handle Disassembly...
I took my wheels to a mechanic nearby that i've used because he's nice and cheap to get MOT work done for re-test tomorrow. 
It had failed on a few things (nervous dog ate some seatbelts) plus the rear sliding door was not opening from the outside, but would from the inside.

 Anyway for one reason or another, he had failed to see to the door till earlier today, I think he was convinced a rod had come off, but it wasn't and he said the handle was broken and has sent me a link for one off the 'Bay.
And as I'm now going to mis my re-test (though I think I'm still going to go to get the other bits, seatbelts/wishbone bush/headlamp etc signed off anyway), I'm gonna do the door handle myself.

I've read all relatable threads on the forum here, but most of the photos are not available any more or its relating to a newer model, thus different. YouTube does not have any about the handle specifically, just door removal and rear/back van door locks...
Can anyone point me in the direction of ant helpful resources.. one that I can see the workings properly? 

Ideally a photo/vid or a schematic in Haynes style would be amazing.

The panel is off and when I got back, I could just see in the failing light how the inside door opening "button' works when you push it, and how the outer handle should interact with that mechanism. So it does looks like all the rods are attached.
I'll have another look in the morning when its light.

After reading the previous threads I took note about the Pin, and saw how common this is, so I have messaged the mechanic to double check and confirm that he actually did see the broken part of the handle and thats it not just the pin, before I order the handle...to br fair, the handle was replaced by the previous owners and it was super cheap, so could be that thats broken.

Hi there, I've attached the section from the M59 Haynes manual, should be what you need. I know you've got an M49 but the doors & handles should be the same design inside. The M59 is only a facelift of the M49 - apologies if this is no use, but I don't have any M49 documents.

This post most definitely interests me. One of the first jobs I came across on my 2001 Berlingo involved a rear sliding door that wouldn't open. I got it opening normally in the end, but had to disconnect the central locking plunger in the door to do so.

It wasn't really the most pressing of jobs at the time, and taking a look at the geometry, and myriad of connecting rods criss crossing in a limited space put me off. It made my brain hurt! A job to tackle at a later date if I want to be able to fully lock the car.

My door is similar to the door in the manual here, but it doesn't have any locking device/barrel/cylinder, apart from the central locking and a internal button to operate that independently, which probably made it easier or at least there was less stuff to make it look more complex.

So, seeing as there was no chance of getting the door handle part in time for my retest, i took a punt on a temporary bodge...

I popped off the cap covering the aperture on the thin edge of the door, removing the rod thats held in there and undoing the torx screws (like image 13.7a), so that the whole unit was loose and held in by the connecting rods (it looks like image on P.10, image 13.7b).

I was then able to pull the whole unit to the left and that pulled the rods to open the door.
Using a black Sharpie (other indelible pens are available and I think it was a Berol ). I wrote "pull" with a direction arrow on it.
To be honest i didnt think it was going to pass on that, but it worked fine for the purposes of the retest, which is what mattered, so pass it did!!

I think my other sliding door has the central locking plunger disconnected, as it doesnt lock with central locking, reckon previous owner has issues like yours... I just lock it from the inside reaching via the front door...

A very simple question, but it needs to be asked. My Berlingo is 2001, and there, as far as I can see, is no way to lock the rear sliding doors from inside. There are no buttons to push down, only the child-locks which allow opening from the outside, and push buttons in the door pillars to open the doors.. not lock. The only locking mechanism that I can see is via central locking.. or am I missing something.. ???

The handle you slide backwards to open it, do you not push it forwards to lock it?
