Bird chrip from hell noise coming from rear
#1
Hello all,
2004 2.0 started making this noise recently, Doesn't seem to be the belt as its coming from the rear, Sound like a bird from hell chirping or something

https://vimeo.com/779777206

Notes:
1. The noise will pop up when moving or being stationary
2. When the noise will pop up does not seem to have any logic behind it. Acceleration, turning or reversing do seem to have effect but even this is pretty random.
3. The noise is affected by outside temperature, when its warm the noise frequency is reduced greatly or goes away completely
4. Sometimes a rattle can be heard too.

Searched in a lot of places but couldn't find anything. Anybody know what this could be????
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a bearing chirp to me, possibly a bearing in a tensioner, (aux belt or timing belt).

Could be the alternator bearing, put all electrical items on, Headlights, blower on full, heated rear screen and see if the alternator produces the sound.

Could also be the water pump starting to grumble.

Definitely sure now its not coming form the engine compartment. Even when maximizing electricity usage the alternator and belt stayed quiet. The engine emits no unusual noise when the 'chirping' can clearly be heard inside the cabin.

Already had my suspicions  it had something to do with the muffler/exhaust outlet. Decided to poke at it with a broom handle today, as soon as i held the muffler still with the handle the noise stopped. The muffler is in pretty rough condition, but i have no clue if the noise is coming form in our the outside of the muffler.

Anybody experienced this before?

Thanks

Yeah, metal rubbing against metal can make a chirping sound. Could be you lost a rubber donut or they need adjusted to center the exhaust. It's probably rubbing somewhere.

Prove it by moving the tailpipe left to right, back and forward or up and down while the engine is not running, you should be able to make it chirp.

My Berlingo that I brought 6 days ago has a similar issue. I was forewarned by the seller who said it began after a spare wheel change, but they couldn't get the spare wheel back in tit's cradle properly. Upon investigation the empty cradle was rubbing on the exhaust near the tailpipe. I'm hoping that it'll be quieter once the spare wheel is refitted. Smile Regards DaveP
