Volume restricted due to 'temperature' exceeded
#1
Music
Hi All

With this spell of cold weather and me having the heating on full a lot I keep getting the "Volume restricted due to 'temperature' exceeded" message.

Is anyone familiar with this as can be a right pain if listening to radio or incoming call?

Is there a way to fix this aside from turning the heating down? Such as adding a fan somewhere. I have loads of computer fans spare!

Cheers

Paul

There are a couple of FrenchCarForum threads about this issue.  They explain why it happens (basically, the amplifier is getting everything too hot) and there are a couple of ideas for avoiding it (though it sounds like options are limited):

Seems like bad design in some respects as I'm sure people on the Continent have much more severe Winters than we have here and need more heating.

Any idea where the amplifier resides? I'll probably try to duct cabin air in to see if it can cool it down a little.

The head unit is in the dash behind the visible screen part. I would just add an amp with speaker level input but you would have to turn the EQ mode to flat. Not sure if you can do it yourself or do you need to have the dealer do it.

This is interesting, I have an android auto connection issue that seems to be heat related, works perfectly until the heating is on and it gives up the video stream, I wonder if there is a common thermal issue with the media unit in the dash ?

I had this the other day

Inside of car was wet and smelly due to wet dog

Following day I thought I’d drive with rear windows open and heating pointing out the vents or on the floor (I forget) set to max with fans going fast

Radio threw up the message

Touching the front central bin area below the radio, it was indeed very warm due to the heating, not had this when pointing at screen
