Windscreen Wiper Linkage Disengagement
#1
Can anyone point me in the direction of a video or some images that show the workings of the Windscreen wiper mechanism?
Mine suddenly stopped today in all the rain, luckily just before I got on the motorway... I took off the nearside  trim/grill/facia as I didn't need to take of the windscreen arms to do that. And I can see the linkage from bit arms has become disconnected.
I don't have a tool to get the actual arms off and so I need to find a way to fit the linkage back on from the N/S.
What is it that holds the linkage onto the motor arm? Is it a clip?
Thanks Niknak

As far as I remember they are a cup and ball arrangement. They should just press back on . May not last very long before they jump off again.

Couple of tie wraps or drill through and a bolt.

Yes, I could get the N/S blade ball type connector back in through the hole in the arm thats attached to the motor, it just hooks over the connection as the hole is quite big and the ball is a couple of MMs smaller , but like you say it just fell of again after a wipe or 2, so it obviously need fixing in place.

I think I have seen on line that there is a universal clip that fits behind the aperture on the motor arm, so i will wait for a break in the rain and go and get one.

But what i want to know is, does the one arm I can see from the motor, power both of the wipers?

This means that there must be a linkage from the O/S driver side blade, that fits onto the N/S passengers side one
or is there another arm I cannot see?

I dont think I can get in there to drill through the little ball..and the balls a bit small to make a hole in... Though maybe if I cable tie the ball after the arm has gone on it will hold it on like the clip would Idea ..thanks  Smile

But I am still unsure as to how the arm from the O/S attaches.
I did find a youtube where it shows how you can get the wiper arm off without a puller, by putting the nut back on and using a spanner on top of the nut and under the wiper arm and it can ping off without damaging the spline, so i will try that and then i can get the whole cowl off to see whats going on in there... pity theres nothing online to indicate how the whole mechanism works for Berlingos.

Once you loosen the nut (leave it on by a few threads), grab hold of the thick part of the wiper arm and jiggle (pull) up and down with not too much force, it will break loose easily enough.

Exactly like Zion said or with locking pliers here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62J7n09A8zk
I have done this a few times with these pliers or normal pliers and works a treat, no damage to the splines. Rock the wiper arm a few times and it will free. Sure, if you do this 100 times, the splines will get damaged, but you are not going to remove them 100 times right?

I remember something like this from earlier and I found these clips on Amazon specially made for the job of repairing the linkage. To get my wiper arms of I just raised them off the screen and wobbled them a bit and they came loose easily.
So where does this bit go then ?
