dps tank pump replace
#1
hi

i know there are lots of good threads about the Eolys fluid replace etc but my engine light came up last month and the garage said that i need to replace the additive tank, pump (which is in the tank i believe) and fluid. They are struggling to get a cheaper quote than £1014 plus vat. from a main dealer.

I have seen a few around ebay for much less. Do you think the pump needs replacing or is it just another fault code that it throws out as well as the low fluid? and does it really cost so much? thank fully the garage thinks its just a 2 hr job so not much to pay on labour.

help!

forgot to say 2017 berlingo (white!)

You have the dual system, Eolys pouch and pump underneath (drivers side rear) to help with the DPF regeneration. Also then the Adblue system (passenger side rear) which is to inject Adblue into the exhaust gas stream to reduce Nox emissions. Both are seperate and do a different job.

Adblue system - the pump cannot be removed from the tank, it's a weird shaped assembly and not possible to open it up. The price of them is eye-watering. I have seen a supplier who wanted £750 for a tank and pump assembly but that was not fitted, supply only and it will still need coded in the ECU to tell it that a new part has been fitted. Your garage doesn't seem to be taking the P really to be honest. Low fluid does not cause an engine light, for one thing it can measure the level in the Adblue tank (I was prompted to fill mine up last weekend, only get a Urea light coming on, no engine light or code) - message is "fluid low - 1500 miles remaining"

Eolys pouch system - level in the pouch cannot be measured by the ECU, it guesses how much is left by counting fill-ups and mileage, that pouch lasts 100k miles and then it will flag a fault for the pouch being empty and a message saying "risk of clogging" or "depollution fault"

You need to clarify which system they say is failing, both are not connected and are different in cost and what can be done. The Eolys pouch can be swapped or refilled, the pump is potentially faulty but it can be swapped

The Eolys pump is not the same pump as used by the Adblue tank (which you fill using the blue cap next to the Diesel cap) - that tank holds about 15L but I only ever put 10 in when it says that the level is low. Saves overflowing it.

Think I am right in thinking you can check pump operation with diag box

The Adblue injector could just be blocked but unless you already have a laptop set up with Diagbox, you're a long way from being able to test anything. Diagbox is also not very user friendly until you get a bit of time under your belt using it.

It's fine to start as a new user to get fault codes of course. Not so easy to do more complex stuff like live testing or configuration without a mate who knows how it works and how to test a component.

If you're not good with cars or computers then I'd leave it to a trusted garage.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I thought I had the tank version rather than the pouch?

If it helps the codes generated are:

P15b3 - additive level calculated lower than minimum
U0118 - multiplexed additive pump
P1434 - multiplexed additive pump: pump fault
P1435 - multiplexed additive pump: can network fault or pump fault
P242f - particulate filter: filter detected worn

I presume this just relates to eolys pump not the adblue pump?

Anyone know where I can get a good second hand pump/tank?

Ok, so those codes are for the DPF system which is the Eolys pump and that is fed from a pouch, inside a fake tank-looking cover under the floor, ahead of the drivers side rear wheel. That pump is replaceable and I'd be surprised if it cost £1000 anywhere, but some of those codes are also indicating a canbus Comms fault with the pump so it could be the pump or the Comms cable from it to the ECU.

You have both a pouch system and a tank, the tank being for Adblue. That pump is non replaceable and is eye watering prices for the tank assembly.

Make sure this garage is not confusing the two items. They are not the same and nothing to do with each other. Your codes are for the DPF additive pump, which is not inside a tank, it's under a cover on the drivers side as I said. The cover unbolts and you will see the pouch and pump.

I expect your mileage has hit 100k miles now, as one of the codes is for the age of the DPF hitting 100k and being full of oil ash (the residue of regeneration which accumulates constantly)

Thanks Zion,

I will check with the garage that it’s the DPF tank not adblue. It’s an expensive fix but I suppose it’s only done once in the vans lifetime.

Cheers.

If it is the DPF additive system, and the codes suggest it is (I have checked the official Citroen system and they are definitely DPF codes) then I would try a used pump if it is faulty. Unfortunately the garage will need DiagBox software and the Actia interface to code in the new pump and reset the pouch counter.

Where’s the best place to buy a used one - eBay? The garage did say they would do the regen and if they were going to put in a new pump I presume they would be able to code it in too. I’ll double check with them. A second hand pump is surely cheaper than the £1000 from the dealer.

I think ebay is worth a shot. I don't think they changed the pump design from 2012 to 2018 but nothing concrete to go on for that opinion. I would feel pretty fair done by, if I got one for £70 to £100 and probably not much more, if used.
