Expecting delivery of an XL sometime next week.

Primarily purchased so we can take our bikes on many adventures throughout the UK and abroad.

Good choice, we have used our Berlingo to transport our family of four all over Europe, normally with bikes/camping gear etc. Now the kids are a lot older I have been been using it to transport myself and my wife plus our bikes on regular trips. Great for transporting your bikes, what I would also recommend [if you haven't already got some] is to buy a number of the bungee cords to attach to the 'D' loop fixings in the floor [I'm assuming the modern Berlingos still have the 'D' loops] and thread them through various points on the bike frame so they are held securely inside the vehicle.

Bungees were our first thought. I think it will be a little trial and error to see how they both fit.

Will you be using a boot liner? We got ours from Titan, and it is brilliant! Ours is the M, not the XL, but I imagine that they will do it for the XL too.

Yes, we're keen to protect the carpet from any mud on the wheels so a boot liner of some description is a must for us.
