I suppose this is going to yet another of my Berlingo DIY pet hates.

Changing the air filter is what I am referring to - what a game!!

Not done it yet and don't want to either.

I am looking for a K&N filter which is fit it and leave it.

K&N filters are NOT 'fit it and leave it' filters.
No air filters are that.

The closest you can get to that is the old oil-bath systems fitted to old diesels...
(I'm working on restoring an old Nuffield 343 that's been modified to mount an old backhoe system. And yeah, it has the oil bath)

I take your point but I don't do a great deal of miles per year and this is what interests me and I quote

" up to 50,000 miles between air filter cleaning. Not having to buy another air filter means the K&N filter is also environmentally friendly."

 I have had these on all my motors (bar a few) but on this motor the fuss and performance needed to change the filter makes me want to get one all the more.

50,000 would last me about 10 years!

K&N filters are a gimmick.

I think you will find that K&N filters need periodic servicing, which involves cleaning and re-proofing with K&N products, which work out quite expensive.
Just stick to the normal filter, it will probably give you upwards of 20K, if not used in very dirty environment.

Nevermind the price. I would be worried about introducing extra dust to the engine.

The B9 HDi has the filter to the rear of the engine, under the scuttle shelf. It's not great to access.

Which model has the air filter at the front? Apart from my first van being a 1.9d I have only had HDi engines and can't remember seeing any engine where the filter was at the front.

It's one of those things that makes me think that most owners have the garage work on it.  I am just musing but I wonder how many DiYers own Berlingos - I see many of these motors being converted ones.
