They let air out when you shut the doors. It prevents pressure build up which would stop the doors from closing properly, or damage passengers eardrums etc.
All vehicles have them. They just aren't normally so visible.

How easy was it to remove that rear side panel? Was there much involved?
The side panels [and the rear door panel] are all held in with plastic clips. You just need some plastic trim removal tools [plenty of sets available cheaply on eBay] to get behind the panel and lever them out in turn. They 'pop' out as you go around. Be aware that as they are plastic, inevitably they go brittle with age, so be prepared to replace a good number of them that will break on panel removal. Again the clips can be purchased cheaply on eBay and such like. Look for Peugeot/Citroen panel clips such as these:

Thanks.
I assume I only need the big bottom panel off and not the one around the window?
I just have to clear out the rear as it happens to be behind my spare wheel! lol

They are indeed an absolute pig to remove as Zion says. Most of the panels are retained by these push fit fasteners and be warned they mostly will grenade themselves sending debris into a low earth orbit!
side panel is VERY EASY to remove!!
left side:
gently pull the rubber door seal to release the rear of the panel, then pull the upper part of the panel to the inside to unclip it, then pull the front of the panel to unclip, then slide the panel about 7-8mm to the rear of the car to release the white fastener (only 1 fastener is present)
right side:
unscrew the big plast screw in the middle of the panel, then follow the left side panel removal procedure
It takes me under 5minutes to remove both panels, even first time it took less than 10 minutes

The diagram here shows the location of all ECUs - BSR1 / BTC1 is the trailer module. 7500 is the parking radar module.

Where did you get those factory schematics from? Do you have more of those for the rest of the vehicle systems please? The Haynes manual is terribly uninformative, especially for the 1.6 petrol. There's nothing related to the petrol version at all

That is a superb guide, thanks. It will make my job a lot easier!!
I will be giving it a go sooner rather than later. lol
