Hi all have just bought a 2002 1.9 diesel Berlingo, I’ve no heater in the van I’ve checked the two pipes going through the bulk head one gets warm the other is cold and no change when van is warm? I’ve flushed the rad etc but still no good temp hand seems to sit where it should although if gunning the van this rises? Any ideas what to check or do to repair?
Many thanks

The valve connected to the hot-cold control is probably stuck shut or the steel cable has snapped.

Follow the bulkhead heating hoses to the engine and look for a valve operated by a belden cable like a bike brake. When you go from cold to hot at the heating controls, you're just opening a mechanical valve.
It could be inside the dash on the M49 though, not had one of those..but it will be an old school simple lever valve job

When I disconnected the heater matrix on my M49 last year, I can't recall seeing any valves on the hoses, so it might be inside the dash. (I would just pop out and have a look to confirm, though I've just taken the vehicle to a local garage for its MOT, so any inspection will have to wait until I get it back).

It could be mounted on the heater matrix unit where the hose goes in at one side.

As far as I know the heater matrix is always in play, there is no valve to stop the water supply to it.
I would say the heater matrix is either blocked or has an air lock.

What controls the temperature then JJ, what's on the end of the belden cable?

The heater temperature control dial moves a flap via the bowden cable that lets the air pass through the matrix, if the dial is on cold the matrix is closed off so no heat from it enters the air flow.

Just another thought . . check along the length of the cold pipe that goes to the bulkhead, could be it has been blanked off somehow if the heater matrix has had a leak.

Ah ok thanks. That's different to the later system. And sorry. Bowden cable.
