headlight adjustment

Does anyone know if it possible to permanently adjust a berlingos headlights for driving in Europe. The reason being we have exported a UK car to France and need to pass the CT and brand new ones are quite expensive

Hello and welcome. That has been discussed before on this forum when people have moved to the continent. On another recent post the user elected to replace the headlights with the ones correct for the continent rather than trying to adjust them. Have a search in the forum.

I couldn't find any posts specifically dealing with an attempt to adjust that failed but I may not have put the right thing into the search bar.

I read somewhere that there is an allen key slot to adjust the headlights left to right on the headlight assembly. I will have a look later but can anyone clarify that for me?

I far as I know the beam pattern from a headlight with prismatic glass, mostly found on older models,
can be modified satisfactorily and the AA/RAC sold kits for travellers to Europe to achieve this end.
More modern vehicles have the beam pattern formed by the reflector, hence the clear glass on Berlingos.
The reason as usual is down to cost. It is relatively expensive to accurately mould glass but now most if not all
reflectors are silvered plastic rather than chrome plated metal and moulding the required facets on a reflector
adds very little cost. Because of the huge variance of size and shape of modern headlights it is simply not
possible to make a 'one size fits all' beam adaptor.
Therefore the only alternative is to change both units to entirely satisfy European regulations .

I have just changed mine (Mk2 Berlingo) as I live in France. My new ones cost something like €80.00 each delivered.

The allen key slot is for adjusting the height of the beam up and down so that you can level the beam across the two. Just had to do this on mine as the units that I brought from eBay were not level (not unsurprising). Interestingly, the car has just passed its French MOT (CT) with these new headlamps and the test center told me they were not level but this didn't even warrant any comment on the paperwork!

The allen key slot is for adjusting the height of the beam up and down so that you can level the beam across the two. Just had to do this on mine as the units that I brought from eBay were not level (not unsurprising).
