Heart beat skipping moments
#1
Jumped in the motor  and the reversing beep was a continuous drone.  I silenced it by pressing its off switch!!!  Also, the car's ignition lights went off and it was a non starter to boot.

Bit of a panic as I had to be at an appointment .

My first thought was the 40 amp fuse that I had put in had done something nasty.

I disconnected the wire and all was OK.

Later I reconnected the wire and all was back to normal.

I think I know what was going on but what do you think was happening?

Had you loosened the battery clamp and not clipped it back in properly?

And I see my resized avatar works....!

Ah, that's a question!! lol

Left the battery clamp(s) alone - I am always reluctant to disconnect a battery unless welding or doing any electrical reconstruction..

So what was it? Causing the blackout I mean.

I don't know.  It all went dead and your words about calling in Citroen to tow it away kept ringing through my head.

I stopped the reverse sensor noise by pressing the "off" switch. It reminded me of the when I had the car - someone had turned off the switch because as I later worked out one of the sensors was out of its socket and sensing it was close to something which was the bumper!!

I did about one minute of thinking and decided to disconnect "the" wire in case the car was sensing something attached it did not like but still nowt.  So now I realised that this was possibly caused by the 40 amp maxi fuse and I was about to abandon my trip and pull the ***** thing out.

I gave the motor one more go and it fired up Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused

As I was driving to where I had to be I had two thoughts because don't forget "the" fuse was for the trailer socket!!

First thought now I was a bit calmer was that the fuse had activated more than I knew about and was messing with the reverse sensors or something connected with towing electrics.  There is no sign of a towbar having been fitted but all the harness is there at the back.

My second thought was the ECU had to learn (or update itself) about the new fuse.  I think this is the most likely because I have had ECU  "learning" experiences in the other motors especially after disconnecting the battery.  I think it was my Ignis or one of my Pajeros.

I reconnected the wire as I was about to head back home and everything was fine.

Go figure!

Just had a quick thought. Maybe the battery got a bit drained for some reason that entirely escapes me and the eco system shut me down.

Yeah I think you are correct, it was sensing the new fuse and wondering what to do about it.

I've seen this before from the BSI, it behaves in mysterious ways.

I assume it was programmed like any other AI apart from the brain running the automatic gear change.
